From the guestbook
Initially it looked well presented
Dog poo bags from the previous guests had been left on the terrace adjacent the outside dining table.
I immediately informed the agents & asked for them to be removed.
They were not removed & still there when we vacated the property after two days.
Obviously we had no inclination to use the outside dining area or any of the outside area whilst these poo bags were still there. The French doors stayed firmly closed !
There were other problems within the property:
Light bulbs out in both bathroom & kitchen.
Filth & cobwebs on the purlin in the bathroom.
Only three coat hangers & very limited storage for clothes.
Dirty external dining bench & terrace.
Great location, clean and comfortable. Would visit again!

Beautiful interior lots of space
A very good location for bird watching on Bempton Cliffs, and reachable without a car by train, then bus (no.14) and a 10 minute walk. Shame the actual cost is higher than advertised, once a £60 cleaning fee is added.
Great location. Great decor and furnished very stylishly. Spotlessly clean.
Nothing to dislike
Great size and location. Very cosy and stayed cool in the heat. Superb kitchen facilities
I couldn't get WiFi password to work but didn't raise it as an issue
Lovely cottage will definitely be back, thank you
We really liked the location. There was parking on site and use of outdoor area, and comfy bed.
Poor ventilation in the bathroom.
The location was perfect and very quiet. Cottage was light and spacious. Nice outdoor sitting area
The bed was very soft and rickety and chests of drawers shot out and almost fell on your feet. Could do with a new, simpler bed (not 4 poster).
Wi-Fi didn’t work ,no welcome pack
Good location for exploring the coast.
Easy walk into the village for food in the evening. Nice to have outside space.
Bed was not comfotable.
Really nice, good decor. Well equipped kitchen. Clean
Nothing but would recommend a bin in the bathroom otherwise everything was excellent
quite spacious downstairs, nice patio area and communal grounds
noisy upstairs doors and floor boards
Nice large garden, however, not secure so children and dogs could easily get onto main road. Kitchen was well equipped. Plenty of space in apartment.
The boundary of the garden was not secure, dogs or children could easily get onto the main road. The drawers in the bedroom were leathal, we are happy to still have our toes. There wasn't quite enough plugs so we had to keep changing around the kettle, toaster, and microwave. Not keen on the plastic plants at all, feels a bit tacky - some live ones, cut flowers, or none at all would be better. The sofa wasn't particularly comfortable for the whole family.
lovely little cottage - compact with everything you need. really nicely decorated and comfortable.
outside space was a gravelled driveway - so. or the best for our dog. No window in the kitchen.
The cottage was so lovely everything I needed was there
The only drawback was I didn't have a car but that was poor planning from me
very clean, comfortable beds .
excellent kitchen and lounge.
Low beams in the twin bedroom.
Difficult getting out the doors.
Really big place, lots of space! Bedrooms were at either end of the communal space. Lovely outdoor space too.
spacious, modern, minimalistic, comfortable - very home from home. Nice little touches with cleaning cloths, t-bags, coffee. plenty of electrical sockets.
I was emailed re verification process which I did but I have had probably another 10 emails about the same thing, very irritating.
apart from a few cobwebs and a dirty cup on the side of bathroom sink, I have no complaints.
We first came last year in July and loved the place, central for so many beautiful spots! Beautifully presented and everything you need. And the beds… it’s very rare you get a bed thag is comfier than your one at home! The bed was so so comfy!!!
The only downside is the rugs, this wouldn’t of initially bothered me, but my toddler kept tripping over them. The noise from what I think was something to do with this gas, and we have a man visiting for the fire extinguisher but by the time we received a message from host and stay he had come and gone.
Would definitely recommend for anyone who wants a holiday in Flamborough or surrounding areas! Will be coming back. Everyone who I’ve spoke to at Host and Stay has been pleasant and lovely! Thank you for a lovely stay!
Location was very good & easy to find.
Property had all amenities required & was fairly spacious.
Being woken up at crack of dawn by neighbouring cockerel!! &:the toaster setting all of the smoke alarms off at similar time! Thing is, the toast wasn't even burnt!!
Nice and spacious downstairs. Bathroom was a good size and the shower was powerful with plenty of hot water. All nice and clean.
Well equipped kitchen. No instructions for appliances so microwave took a bit of working out!
The proximity to where our friends were staying in their camper was spot on and it was fairly quiet too.
Nice outlook to the rear but nothing to look at from the living room. Adding some tubs of plants opposite the windows would give interest. Not everyone is 'glued to the TV'!
Host and Stay is new to us - would use again.
The bedroom layout didn't work well for us, twisting and stooping to get in and out of bed was very awkward. Banged our heads on the beams a few times. The bed frame was low, the mattress not in the best condition, had a dip in the middle causing 'roll together', very uncomfortable. Unfortunately, we didn't sleep as well as we had hoped! We did report the mattress problem.
There was no shelf or basket in the shower to put shampoo & shower gel on/in which meant we had to keep bending up and down with our bottles etc - not ideal and none near the basin for toiletries/shaving/teeth cleaning etc either. We had to use the edge of the basin and the top of the toilet cistern. Everything else had to stay in a bag on the floor!
No cloth provided in the kitchen for wiping down the surfaces and table.
The squeaky floors - no creeping about here!!...
All very straightforward for get in. Cottage very well thought through for practicalities and comfort. Had everything we needed. Loved the warm bathroom and shower and towels.
A few minor niggles.....dishwasher needed salt so had to wash up by hand in the end. Could have had a shave more toilet rolls and shower gel....could have done with a few hooks to hang coats. Front door lock a bit unpredictable. When we arrived there was a fire next door which wafted toxic smoke over....really not great for the asthmatic.
Floorboards very creaky, rugs in bedroom and lounge had big creases in them and were a trip hazard especially with a toddler. Sofa is very uncomfortable.
Communal garden is great for dogs and children.
bright and modern cottage - beams look great
good location to explore this region
nice patio area and grass outside the cottage
short walk into Flamborough if you want to leave the car
cottage had everything you need
furniture was modern but not the most comfortable but weather was kind so we were outside a lot
This is in a great spot. A quiet little place off the main road in and out of town. This place was great for a week. Having a kitchen meant it was easy to cook up a breakfast before a big day out. The lounge area is nice with a massive TV. Great value for money!
The bed was a bit rickety! Was scared to roll over in the middle of the night. When we first arrived there was a note on the table that said Wifi (no password required) and then when you try to log on there was a password! And with No Service it was a bit annoying at first trying to figure it all out. The email came through eventually with the details you needed.
The cottage was cold
The location and the quality of the accomadation
And selfiesThe ridiculous booking system having to send photo id and selfies. Which I had to do 4 times, in total I recieved 22 e mails for a simple 2 night booking. This will undoubtedly cost you bookings if I hadn't have already paid at one stage I would have cancelled
Large property. Clean. With parking. Nice furniture.
Can't think of anything.
nice and bright with good size lounge and bedroom
limited storage in bedroom
no where for toiletries in bathroom or shower cubicle
wobbly dining table
no back garden or direct access to communal back lawn so not ideal with the dog
tiny kitchen and valuable floor space taken up by huge bin and recycling bin
no table mats
Amazing place and great location! Beds were lovely! We really enjoyed our stay, would definitely stay here again!
very clean and well presented/decorated
comfy bed, plenty of space, great parking and good location
hard to dislike anything!
very clean, with all mod cons, accessible.
I didn't realise how much we were getting for our money.
The living room and kitchen was a bonus for a comfy stay.
The walls are very thin. You can hear the apartment next door as if they were sharing it with you.
Everything, it was absolutely perfect
Was gutted that it wasn't decorated for Xmas ??
We had a lovely stay and hope to book again in the near future. Great property in a lovely location. The dog loved it! Communication from the host was helpful with useful advice and very welcoming.
Lovely clean home away from home. Ideal location close to pubs and shops
really spacious, modern and clean
Clean. Warm. Great shower. Good location with easy walk into Flamborough and to headland. Easy to find and access. Lots of places nearby to visit. Would happily book this again.
Tiny things! No bin in the bathroom or upstairs bedroom so had to come downstairs with any bits of rubbish.
A tin of fly spray would have been useful! The toilet brush handle was broken!
Nothing to put me off booking again.
All superb downstairs - a lovely property beautifully maintained and with everything we wanted. Bathroom fine.
The one big problem was the ceiling in the bedroom. A low sloping ceiling with two very low (and hard!) wooden beams made it impossible to get into / out of one side of the double bed at all, and the only way in or out was to crawl up the bed from the foot. I am getting a bit old for that sort of thing!
The whole accommodation was stunning with the only very slight downside being how low the beam next to the bed in the bedroom was. I am not particularly tall but still had to bend right over to get to my side of the bed.
We loved the way the accommodation was furnished. It had everything we needed and more and was immaculate.
Lovely cottage in a great spot for exploring the Yorkshire coast!
Was a lovely relaxing time away
Nothing to dislike however would av preferred a bath not shower
Location excellent for getting about area
Nice and quiet, comfy bed, fabulous power shower, good wifi
the kitchen needed a good clean on arrival, the kettle needs descaling and the fridge freezer needs defrosting.
The property was far enough away from Flamborough to make it peaceful & quiet, but near enough to be able to easily walk to beaches, bays, bars & restaurants.
There were just little things missing, like a little bin upstairs in either the bedroom or bathroom. We had to phone on the first night, as we found all of the pans were rusty. They were replaced the next day, but then we found other kitchen utensils rusty in drawers. There were also dust strands, and spiders webs, which you wouldn’t expect with their ‘enhanced cleaning’ due to Covid.
The cottage served its purpose, and was comfy, but not cosy.
Great accommodations as advertised
We stayed at Puffin Cottage from Friday to Tuesday, 4 nights. Check in was super easy with a lock box at the property so we could be flexible when we travelled down. The cottage was clean and had some lovely touches for the kids. Some toys, books, colouring pencils, beanbags, plastic plates & cups, a potty and toddler seat. The beds were amazingly comfy, not something you say easily when staying away. The garden is shared with the other cottages, so everyone has access to a nice big area of grass and trees, good climbing trees for the kids and a stump to climb and jump off. There is also a shared laundry room in case you do want to do some washing which I did after sandy beach days. The washing machine is great but the dryer is a little old so you need to put it round for a good 4/5 hours for it to dry your clothes or hang them up. The only niggle we had was that our outside light wasn’t working and no one was available to come and fix due to it being a weekend stay. We luckily had a screwdriver in the car so managed to swap the bulb over from one in the house. Easy to talk to someone though, and responses were quick. The cottage is in a great location to travel the Danes Dyke beach, Bridlington and Flamborough. We had a lovely few days exploring all the different beaches. Definitely worth a stay here.
The property was spacious and dog friendly, quite a long way from anywhere. but fit for purpose
living room looked out on to an 8' fence and headroom was limited in bedrooms but liveable
Brilliant stay - clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend if you want to be in Flamborough but not in the residential area.
Lovely cottages, quiet little out of the way but walking distance to the beach. Dog-friendly which is the main thing we need. Beautifully decorated and clean, all the amenities you need.
Nothing, it was all very well kept and clean.
We had a lovely stay at Puffin Cottage, the cottage is bright and very spacious and the outdoor area (although shared) is very nice.
The Seabirds Inn in the village and also the Lighthouse Fisheries are worth a visit.
The place was light, airy and spacious - though for £140 a night you should expect that. Everything was clean and well kept, except for a couple of dirty crocks which the dishwasher hadn't coped with. The place was quiet, with good sound insulation.
If you are tall, Razorbill might not be the cottage for you. One side of the bed has a head-cracker of a beam at 4' off the ground, as your're staying in a converted roof. Likewise the beam in the bathroom will get lofty people as they clean their teeth. Other cottages may not have this problem, so do ask when booking. Fortunately, we're not tall, and there were only a few very minor issues, like no bathroom bin - simple to fix - which we took up with the owners. I'm sure it will be fixed by next time. It was quite the most expensive place we've every stayed in the UK, so our expectations were high to begin with.
Location near enough to village centre and beaches within driving distance
Nice long walks in surrounding area along cliff tops etc. Quiet area
Some Beams were low and a bit awkward getting dressed at one side of the bed
Twin room was very low on one of beds. Only suitable for a small child.
Coffee machine is really quite rubbish it leaked and cups didn’t fit under it. Took ages to make a decent cuppa.
We could have done with a fence around the garden or at least a small enclosed area for dogs to go out. As we had to keep leads on or door closed due to the nearby road.
The farm house on the end had a few noisy visitors late at night which was annoying but apart from that all good.
Downstairs was comfortable and spacious
Upstairs was small, both bedrooms and bathroom had beams which mean you had to duck all the time, my husband is 6’ 2 so difficult to get manoeuvre.Decorations were very up to date and modern.
We had a very good time. Nice and cosy place to relax. Very nice outside area with lovely garden.
Everything we needed for a pleasant stay with our dogs
Very clean & spacious cottage. Ideally situated for near by beaches. Good parking facilities
Absolutely lovely place to stay! Very well equiped & clean. Location was perfect for us as we could visit different places each day with short driving distance. Definitely we will be back hopefully soon ?
A fabulous, clean cottage in a quiet area. The kitchen was well equipped, there are three TV sets and everything needed was provided, including loads of hangers!
Pictures were misleading. We stayed for 2 nights with a dog. The pictures show grass outside, ideal for the dog. Our barn has no grass which was not ideal.
The pictures also show 2 sofas but on arrival there was only 1.
No washing up liquid- I called the number in the handbook and was greeted with a big sigh!
Lovely stay. Brilliant place and really clean and comfortable.
Close to Filey which is a classy seaside resort.
Pub called Seabird in Flamborough was fantastic food.
Would definitely return.
Lovely place to stay and dog friendly
The property was clean and well-equipped, with fittings of a good standard. The bed was comfortable, there was plenty of space and the WiFi was good. The location is brilliant for bird watchers, as it's a short distance from Bempton Cliffs (RSPB reserve) and Flamborough Head, so perfect for seeing the nesting seabird colonies.
No complaints about anything!
Puffin was a lovely cottage. Bright, airy, tastefully decorated with good quality fittings. Beautifully clean. So handy for Flamborough which has some good pubs. The food in the Seabird Inn was very nice. We also liked the beer, cider, pizzas at Viking at North Landing - a short drive. Our group was four adults.
Only comment- would have preferred 4 single beds. Maybe the option of a linked bed would be good?
Lovely cottage with all the amenities but be aware of the squeaky floor boards.
Good, spacious, open plan accomodation. Ideal for families..clean and comfortable with washing facilities. Few minutes drive from Flamborough (excellent fish & chip shop) and local beaches, RSPB reserve, Flamborough Head Lighthouse etc..
Very comfortable accommodation with plenty of space. Well located for exploring the local coastline.
Be prepared to be bombarded with emails and texts with rules and regulations. Then when you arrive AirBnB's policy of a 'home away from home' really doesn't apply. No basics (salt, pepper, oil) although I'm sure Covid will be the excuse. A 10ml shampoo and conditioner for 4 people staying 2 days? Covid your way out of that one!!
Wi-Fi not password secured which is a security risk. Fortunately we had mobile network...
It was really windy the first night we stayed. The windows are so draughty that the heating wasn't able to keep up with the cold air entering. When we finally rose after a dreadful nights sleep we look out to find that the barn across the way was missing two of its metal roof panels; both of which were still precariously flappy away totally detached on the roof. Fortunately no-one or nothing from our party (or the other guests) appears to heave been hurt or damaged.... Could have been messy.
Finally, there's the floor. Creaks so much that going to the bathroom in the middle of the night risks waking everyone.
All said though; clean, airy and spacious.
What a perfect place to stay to explore the beautiful surrounding areas! Super clean, really well equipped kitchen, homely, stylish and extremely comfy lounge. Fantastic communication throughout the whole process. One thing to note for dog owners is that the garden, although lovely, isn’t completely enclosed but what a great find. Book it!
Excellent property | . Lovely location. Ideal for a short or longer stay.
Wonderful place and great location for exploring the coast. We will be back soon!
Excellent Barn style accommodation in a fabulous location to explore the North Yorkshire coast.
Just a short walk to local amenities and Flamborough cliffs! The cottage is clean and stylish ideal for young family and pets. Didn’t rate the shower head but that’s easily changed. Overall a great stay and would recommend.
